Footings and Foundations

A construction site with a concrete slab foundation in progress. Metal rebar grids are laid out, and machinery like an excavator and a dumper truck are present. Piles of building materials are scattered around, with a backdrop of trees and hills.

Our comprehensive suite of services includes site evaluation, soil testing, foundation design, and installation, tailored to meet the unique needs of your commercial or industrial venture. We employ innovative engineering solutions to address the challenges of varying site conditions, ensuring optimal performance and longevity of your structures.

Whether you are embarking on a new construction project or require foundation repairs and reinforcements, we are dedicated to providing reliable, expert service you can trust.

Examples of our reliable installations include:

  • Pad and Strip Footings
  • Combined Footings
  • Pile Foundations
  • Raft Foundations
  • Grillage Foundations

Footings

Footings are designed to distribute a building’s load to the soil below, preventing settling by spreading the weight over a larger area and reducing soil pressure. Located directly beneath foundations, they are the first structural element we install in our foundation works process. Examples include strip footings for load-bearing walls and pad footings for specific load points. Combining the two supports multiple columns where individual footings would overlap.

Pile Foundations

These foundations transfer heavy loads from structures to deeper, more stable soil layers. They consist of long, slender columns – usually steel or concrete – driven into the ground on sites with weak or compressible surface soils. Piles provide support by reaching more robust substrates or through friction along their length, varying for different soil conditions and load requirements.

Our pile foundation works are crucial in constructing large buildings and bridges, ensuring stability and durability in challenging environments.

Raft Foundations

Raft foundations, or mat foundations, are large, continuous slabs of concrete spread across a significant area, supporting multiple columns and walls. Ideal for structures on weak or expansive soils, they distribute a building’s load evenly, minimising differential settlement. Raft foundations benefit low-rise buildings, industrial structures, and heavy equipment installations with low soil-bearing capacity.

Constructed with reinforced concrete, these supports reduce the need for deep excavation and are cost-effective for large buildings with closely spaced columns.

Grillage Foundations

Grillage foundations are a type of shallow foundation used to distribute heavy structural loads over a wide area, typically for columns and piers. Constructed with layers of steel arranged in intersecting grids, they provide a stable base for large structures like bridges, industrial buildings and transmission towers. The grillage system effectively spreads the load to prevent excessive settlement and improve stability on weak or uneven soil.

The bottom layer rests on a concrete base or directly on the ground, with subsequent layers arranged perpendicularly. They are cost-effective, easy to construct, and suitable for heavy load-bearing applications.
